Ghost in the machine is the theory that consciousness is intangible and would be beyond the physical body and the brain.
In popular culture, it often refers to artificial intelligence and machines becoming sentient beings, reflecting intentionality.
This concept can be found in different philosophical approaches such as materialism, idealism, the chaos theory and further. 

We want to bring together artists to explore the intricate connection between the mind and body. This is an investigation of the dynamics that either unify or distinguish these two entities. Rather than aiming at validating dualism, the focus lies on tracing the paths of both the body and mind and understanding their mutual influence. 

Foreword: “Ghosts in The Machine is the theory that consciousness is intangible and would be beyond the physical body and the brain. It is a theory that has fascinated me over the last few months. As time moves forward and carries me along on this one-way journey, I can’t help but look inward. What motivates me as an artist, as a partner and person? In this case I refer to motivation as the element that keeps us moving forward in our lives and not the one that gets you to lift weights. 

As unreasonable as it is sounds, there is this lingering feeling that something greater than me is at the origin of all ideas and actions. It is something that I cannot explain rationally, it goes beyond my animal instincts and my brain capacities. I could almost say that my consciousness is divided in two distinct entities. Ghosts of persons I was and want to be. Ghosts of me. Guiding the machine. Both being this wind pushing, this strength pulling, me forward, for the best or the worst. Till death do us part.

While I play with these theories and inspect the unconscious, the natural way to present it is for me to capture it visually.
